The Way We Do Things At KGI
We Manufacture Specialty Axles
Manufacturing specialty heavy duty axles has been our niche for more than 30 years. While most companies focus on high-volume production of nearly identical axles, we can do the opposite.
We are able to focus on producing smaller volume, heavy-duty axles for specialized applications. While we have our staple Self-Steer, Force-Steer, and Off-Highway axles, we often work with companies on engineering axles for their specific needs. And even our standard heavy-duty over the road axles can be configured to a very high degree to work with various suspensions, brake sizes, single and dual wheels, and various load ratings.
Unparalleled Reliability And Easy Service
From the very beginning we have been dedicated to making the most reliable heavy duty axles possible. And that is one of the reasons we have been around for so long.
Broken down equipment costs time and money. And the areas where our axles operate are not always easy to access for service. So in many ways, reliability was a must.
When properly maintained, our axles can easily outlive the service life of equipment they are used on. In fact, some of our early axles are still on the road today!
While some maintenance is unavoidable, we design and engineer our axles to be easy to service. Components are easy to access, source, and replace when necessary. This ensures that your equipment spends as much time on the road as possible.
Quality And Attention To Detail
We manufacture many of our axle components right on site, giving us total quality control. We use premium quality components and check our axles for compliance at each step of the manufacturing process. Even the smallest details are not overlooked.
We machine the core axle components from proprietary quenched and tempered alloy steel, which results in our axles having highest impact properties over the broadest range of service environment temperatures. And we know a thing or two about extreme temperatures here in Canada!
All other axle components are designed for heavy-duty operation, easy servicing, and quick replacement. You only get to this point by meticulously focusing on design details.
During the manufacturing process, our axles are subjected to rigorous quality control. A typical axle will have to pass over 60 checks, and some tolerances are as small as 0.0001 in – that is about 1/40 the width of a human hair!
Even small cosmetic details are not overlooked. You will not find excessive welding spatter, burrs or unnecessary sharp edges on any of our axle components, making them easier and safer to service and maintain. It is these type of details that support the level of craftsmanship that goes into each of our axle products.
Dedicated Service
We are a family owned business, passed on from father to son. And we are a relatively small heavy duty axle manufacturer by global standards. But what we lack in size, we make up in service. Our staff, right across the board, are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest level of service.
When you call us, you will talk to an actual person without having to navigate a maze of automated recordings and selections. In fact, you will often deal with one or two people at the KGI who are dedicated to your account. This builds our relationship and trust.
We will talk to you about small volume and custom inquiries, and we have the capacity and organization to excel at larger volume production as well. There are sometimes requirements and applications that our standard model axles will not meet without some modifications. We are very responsive to find out what your actual needs are and are happy to work along-side your engineering team to come up with a workable solution.
Axles We Manufacture
Self-Steer Axles
We have been manufacturing leading king pin Self-Steer axles for over 35 years. Our axles can be made to fit most suspensions and can accommodate various brake sizes. They are manufactured to provide the highest impact values in the industry, and are available in virtually any track width required.
Force-Steer Axles
Our in-line king pin Force-Steer axles are the most versatile in the industry. They will fit most suspensions, will accommodate various brake sizes, and are available in single and dual tire applications, among other customization options. We also offer complete steering system solutions for manual or fully automatic control.
Off-Highway Axles
We build a diverse lineup of Off-Highway axles over a broad range of capacities up to 100,000 lbs. Manufactured from special quenched and tempered alloy steel for highest impact properties in extreme temperatures. They are commonly used on off-road trailers, tankers, and mobile equipment.
